In-Home Drum Lessons in West Auckland

Grounded Music Education. Real Progress

Private drum lessons on your own kit, in the comfort of your home.
Available Mondays & Tuesdays only.

Lowlands Music offers grounded, thoughtful music education with a focus on real musicianship, not shortcuts.

Founded by Olivier Abeln, Lowlands Music specialises in in-home drum lessons, allowing students to learn in a familiar environment on their own instrument. Lessons are calm, structured, and tailored to each student’s goals — whether that’s building solid foundations, improving technique, or simply enjoying making music.

Olivier is a professional working drummer and educator with experience across modern styles, from rock and pop to more advanced musical concepts. His teaching style is clear, patient, and practical, with an emphasis on consistency and long-term progress.

Lowlands Music currently offers private in-home drum tuition, alongside teaching commitments with an established music school. Availability for private students is limited to ensure quality and balance.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I need a drum kit at home?

Ideally, students should have access to a drum kit to get the most out of lessons. However, beginners can absolutely start with just a pair of sticks and a practice pad. Many foundational skills — including technique, timing, and control — are developed this way. In fact, this is how I began my own first year of drumming.

What ages do you teach?
Typically from around 8 years old through to adults.

Do I need prior experience?
No. Beginners are very welcome.

How are lessons paid?
Payment details are provided upon booking. Lessons are paid in advance.

What if we need to cancel?
Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice to reschedule.
